Additional gameplay additions include 'Be a Pro Mode', which gives the players the ability to play a match as only a single player in the team, besides the goalkeeper. Overall, the game also sees a decrease in the speed of each match.

While each FIFA game sees improvements per release of the game, FIFA 09 supposedly included 250 changes. While not exhaustive, here are some of the largest changes. The user's players now exhibit more responsiveness in many situations, such as when in control of the ball and when two players collide. The entire collision system has been thoroughly redesigned so that during the collision, the players' speed, weight and power will have an effect who comes out best in that particular confrontation. Furthering this responsiveness, the goalkeeper has also been improved to recover faster, position himself better and react more intelligently.

 

The weather has also seen its own overhaul as it now allows snow and rain matches in Kick-Off mode. Furthermore, depending on the stadium, night, dusk and day matches can be played. Manager mode does not feature the weather changes.

 

FIFA 10

 

FIFA 10 is the latest FIFA game available and brings less improvement, but perhaps more important ones for some gamers. The Manager Mode sees its major revision for this iteration. The user can now employ an Assistant Manager to deal with the team line-up as well as other squad-specific details. Additionally, finances are less focused on the sponsors and more on the wages dealt to them. The Manager Mode also shows news about other people's own Manager events. One exceptional improvement is the Auto-Resolve, which is no longer apparently random, but resolves a match based on each team's strength now.

Amidts the excitement of the game's release, it can be slightly bittersweet for some players, namely those who get rated badly and, above all, the one who graces the game's cover. In 1999, John Madden relinquished the cover of each game to a player...and since then, those players have ahd notortiously rough years.

 

The Madden curse made it's mark again in 2009. In 2009, there were two players on the cover for the first time in the franchise's history. Troy Polomalu was shown head-to-head with a man he covered in Super Bowl XLIII; Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals. In the Steelers' first game of the season against the Tennessee Titans, Polamalu suffered a medial collateral ligament sprain while blocking a field goal. He didn't return.

 

You'd think that players and coaches would have learned about the Madden curse by now. Athletes are notoriously superstitious, and next time Madden comes a callin', most would be better off to just decline. 2003: As the 2003 cover athlete, St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk had an ankle injury all season and failed to reach 1,000 rushing yards for the first time since 1996, while the Rams team went 7-9 and missed the playoffs.

 

2004: The Madden Curse struck for the third year in a row in 2003, when star QB Michael Vick missed the entire season due to a fractured fibula he got in a preseason game.

 

2006: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was coming off a Super Bowl appearance, in which his team lost to the New England Patriots. But as the Madden NFL 06 cover athlete, his 2005 was destined for disaster and he suffered a sports hernia in the first game and ended up shutting down for the last seven games of the season.

Having these two on hand is nothing to scoff at, either.} Don't forget, they have quite a resume, between the two of them.} First there's "Clement, Clement, Hand of Cement," Bill Clement, revered NHL All-Star, and member of the ESPN family.} And Clement's co-commentator, ESPN's Gary Thorne, is held in high regard as well.} You won't believe your ears after catching Clement and Thorne's remarks about the game.} The level of realism in Xbox NHL 10 is so high, you'll think you've got the ESPN duo sitting right next to you in your home. Video game fans will be pleased with another one of Xbox NHL 10's new features, precision passing. NHL 10 allows players to have better control of the puck's velocity, unlike NHL 09. And for those of you who've really mastered your slap shot, you can bank your passes off of the board.} Xbox NHL 10, for the very first time, allows you to battle on the boards - another improvement that has the video game world revved up. That is correct sir - you can now thwart your opponent from snagging the puck by kick-passing it to a teammate, in those instances where you have the puck but are pinned up against the boards. Alternatively, if your challenger is being pinned to the boards by you, now is when you can truly put yourself in control - given you are the most excellent hockey player on the arena.}
